Expansion Crazy 88's No Match For Boozers

Bruce Brown Stickman

The expansion Crazy 88's proved no match for a Boozer team looking to come back from their heartbreaking defeat last week. Despite fielding only 8 players for most of the game the Boozers pushed across a season-high thirty runs while only allowing the spirited but overmatched newcomers nine.

Bruce Brown (8-for-9, 3 runs, 4 RBI) and Paul Smith (3 runs, 1 HR, 7 RBI) once again paced the potent Boozer attack. Smith has now recorded a dinger in three of four games played with the Boozers. His performance against the Crazy 88's was put up despite his attempts at reining in his awesome prowess out of respect for the opposition, who have a bit of seasoning yet to go to be a real contender in the league.

Despite the fireworks the offense put on the highlight of the night had to be the return to the Boozer lineup of Karen Schramm, another star from the past who's plaque already resides in the Boozer Hall of Fame at 107 Marked Tree Road in Needham. She seamlessy slipped back in the lineup late in the game at catcher to make up for the missing regulars and deftly handled the task although she was forced to wear the only available mitt, an ancient glove for a right-hander, on the wrong hand. As if that weren't enough she stepped to the plate for the first time in a decade and knocked out a solid single on the second pitch, driving home a run in the process.

That's the way it went all night for the Boozers. Even when they put out less than 100%, they managed to score on the hapless 88's defense.

The offensive heroics overshadowed a solid defensive effort by the Boozer nine. Notably the game marked the first error-free night for SS Smith, which has Boozer Nation hopeful that his early season case of the yips may be a thing of the past.
