Boozers Cruise to Easy Win

Behind the slugging of newcomer Steve Harris the Boozers captured their third straight win of the young season in convincing fashion over the much improved Isotopes (formerly the Crazy 88's). Also chipping in offensively was a resurgent Brian Spaulding, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one batted in.

For the first time this season the Boozers didn't have much to worry about entering the seventh. Their previous two games had proven exciting in the late innings with a walk-off win in the opener followed by a miraculous 10-run game-tieing comeback in the seventh inning of their last game which they eventually run in extra innings. But against the Isotopes those late inning heroics weren't necessary, as the Boozers led from wire to wire in this one, despite being penalized a run per inning for want of a female in the lineup.

The Isotopes looked a lot better in their second season than they did as a rookie team last year, and in fact have eclipsed their win total of last year already after their second defeat of GD later in the week. The youngsters kept it close for the first four innings. But the Boozers pulled away in the top of the fifth, scoring five times. The Isotopes couldn't answer in the bottom half and were credited with only one run because the Boozers sole female, newcomer Cara Gomes, was stuck at work. From that point the Boozers extended their lead by a run every inning to provide a comfortable ten run margin entering the final frame. The Isotopes went down in order in their half of the inning, and the Boozers found themselves with a 3 - 0 record atop the league standings.
