Boozers (11 of 'em!!!) Continue Dominance of 88's

Howard Kogan A full Boozer squad (with an extra player sitting on the bench for the first time all season), led by Howard Kogan (3-for-4, 2 HR), extended the Crazy 88's winless streak in their first season. The final score of 19 - 14 doesn't reflect the tenor of the game, which the Boozers had well in hand throughout.

The 88's score 8 runs in a seventh inning rally, but that fell well short. The Boozers had built a 13 run lead going into the last inning on the strength of timely hitting throughout the order. Only Beth Goan was held without a hit for the Boozers, while Dave Kornbau (playing against his wife Karen for the first time this season) went 3-for-4 with a 3-run homer and 5 RBIs total. Kornbau was injured late in the game, and has been placed on the 7 day DL.

The Boozers shook off their poor defense of the last few weeks and played a solid game in the field. The only black mark on the game was the inability of player/manager Doug Armstrong's to figure out what to do with 11 players in his lineup, unaccustomed as he was to that circumstance at this point in the season. Eventually Armstrong just threw up his hands and let the fielders chose their own positions, which apparently worked out well enough that he may just adopt that style to manage the defensive lineup for the remainder of the regular season.

The win improved the Boozers' record to 6 - 3 on the season while the Crazy 88's remainded winless at 0 - 9.
