Crazy 88's Give Boozers A Scare
![Howard Kogan](./images/howardk.jpg)
Poor pitching and sloppy fielding by the Boozers, combined with good hitting by the 88's, staked the newcomers to an 11 - 2 lead after two innings. Worst among the Boozers errors were the pitcher's, Doug Armstrong, who booted three grounders and misjudged an infield popup in the first inning alone. After suffering through that inning and the 2nd, when the 88's put another pair of runs on the board, the Boozer bats came out of their coma and the offense managed to scrape out a couple of runs on 2 hits and an 88's error. But at that point they still trailed 11 - 2.
In the top of the 4th the 88's once again managed a couple of runs but the Boozers, led by Howard Kogan (6-for-7, 9 RBI) came out smoking (even without Sammy there) in the bottom half of the inning and scored twelve runs, all with two outs, to take a 14 - 13 lead that they never relinquished. They added another eight runs in the 5th and seven more in the sixth while holding the 88's to just a pair of runs in a late rally.
Sean Ford (aka
The Worst Last Man Standing Player In History) made his debut for the Boozers to fill out the depleted lineup and acquitted
himself admirably with two hits and two RBI. Currently on a temporary callup from the Boozers minor league affiliate in Halifax,
Ford is hoping to increase his chances of sticking with the club by recruiting his fiancé Cara Gomes, who is reported to be a
star pitcher and is much sought after by Boozer management. They're hoping they can get her signed and in uniform for Thursday's
important game against Muzi.
The win improved the Boozers to 5 - 2 on the season. The Crazy 88's remain winless, although improving steadily.
