Boozers Bounce Back, Overcome GD

Brian Spaulding Ralph Folz
The return of veterans Brian Spaulding and Ralph Folz paced the Boozers to a well-earned win over a determined GD squad last night. Spaulding was devastating at the plate, going 5-for-6 with 6 RBI after missing the previous two games. Folz, playing in only his second game of the season, kept up his torrid offensive pace as well, belting a key 6th inning 2-run home run among his four hits. Rookie 3B Mike Mutter also contributed considerable offense with his 4-for-5 performance, not too mention some solid defense at the hot corner.

The game was close throughout, with GD answering every Boozer rally with a rally of their own. The Boozers briefly opened a six run lead after three innings, but GD had closed to within one by the end of the fourth. And by the end of the sixth the game was knotted at 20. If not for Folz's clutch two-out two-run homer the Boozers might have found themselves staring at their second straight loss, as GD had the momentum on their side and the Boozers were fielding poorly to boot.

But in the seventh the Boozers showed once again why they lead the league in wins as they rallied for four runs in the top of the inning and then played solid defense in the bottom half to hold back the determined GD ten.

The Boozers' record improved to 6 - 1, gaining ½ game on the idle second-place Isotopes, who also happen to be the Boozers' next opponent after a much deserved break for the long weekend. The Boozers will be looking to avenge their only defeat of the season, and embarrassing 17 - 7 loss a earlier in the week at the hands of the second year team.
