Depleted Boozers Suffer First Defeat At Hands Of Isotopes

The Boozers, fielding only 9 players for the game, suffered their first defeat of the '05 season Monday night to a much improved Isotopes team. The Isotopes demolished the Boozer pitching and took advantage of the Boozers' shorthanded situation to post a 17 - 7 win over the league leading Boozers.

There wasn't much good to report from this outing, as the spunky Isotopes touched up pitcher Doug Armstrong early and often, scoring all 17 of their runs in the first four innings. The Boozer bats meanwhile were silent for the middle four innings, managing only one hit and no runs from the second through fifth. The offense managed to come out of its stupor and push across two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, but that was much too little much too late to stave off a humiliating defeat.

Still the Boozers, at 5 - 1, held a 1 game lead over the second-place Isotopes (4 - 2) after the game and remain atop the standings with half the season gone by. The Boozers' next opponent is arch-rival GD, who are struggling this season without their ace, Bob Weishauer, and stand 2½ games back in third place.
