Boozers Take Come-From-Behind Victory

Beth Goan Snoop

A tough Muzi team tested the Boozers in a back and forth game that ended in an 18 - 13 Boozer win. The Boozers trailed most of the night before a 4-run sixth and 3-run seventh sealed the deal as the Boozers held Muzi to a single run over the two final innings.

Doug Armstrong (4-for-5, 3 runs) and Beth Goan (3-for-4, 1 RBI) were key to the Boozer offense. Armstrong had a solid night with 4 singles, boosting his average to a team-leading 0.720 and putting him in the lead in several other team offensive categories as well. His only at-bat that he failed to reach on was a hard liner back up the middle that was stabbed by the Muzi pitcher. It was probably the hardest he's hit a ball all year, but the result was just a hard out.

Goan had such a good night at the plate that when she came up in the sixth after a strikeout by Hung Tran (who now leads the team in Ks) Muzi elected to pitch around her to get to Curtis Clark. That move came back to haunt them as Clark singled home a run and Goan eventually scored on a Bruce Brown single.

Thanks to the return of Cathy Tulig the Boozers actually fielded a full 10-player lineup of or the first game in a few weeks, and they needed all of them to thwart the Muzi batters, who sprayed hits all over the yard in the early going. A brief experiment with Bruce Brown at shortstop was deemed unsuccessful, but other than that the defense played well behind Armstrong, who picked up his fourth win of the season against one loss.

Next up the Boozers look to avenge their only loss of the season, to GD last week, on Monday.
